SEARCA PHOTO CONTEST 2011 will award entries that best represent the initiatives and activities that scientists, practitioners, rural development workers and champions are undertaking to tackle the multiple challenges of research and development in agriculture and natural resource management (NRM) at the local, national and international levels. Photographs should emphasize the dynamism with which Southeast Asia seeks to understand, solve and communicate about issues in food security and environmental sustainability. Photographs should focus on people at work – on the field, in the laboratory, among members of communities. Examples of these could be field shots and documentation of R & D activities (scientists in their study sites or doing experiments, experts coordinating with local government officials on the field, farm activities, people processing, packaging and marketing agriculture products). They may also include people operating special devices or equipment such as those for GIS and spatial analysis or microscopy.

Prizes:

  • 1st Place: $500
  • 2nd Place: $300
  • 3rd Place: $200
  • People’s Choice Award: $100

Image requirements: JPEG or TIFF format; at least 3,000 pixels on the longest dimention at 300 dpi.

Judging criteria:

  • Relevance to the theme 35%
  • Technical quality (clarity, use of tones and color, photographic composition) 30%
  • Originality/creativity 20%
  • Regional flavor 15%
