• Copyright: Artists retain full rights to their work. The Kiernan Gallery requests use of selected images for the purpose of marketing the exhibition and subsequent display as thumbnails on the website.
• Entry fee: $25 for the first 5 images, $5 per additional image

Theme: In Transit

Whether by road, sea, rail, air, or other means, vehicles are both essential and ubiquitous in our daily lives. Photographers have documented transportation history, as NASA launched rockets, Ford assembled cars, and the Wright brothers took flight. As modes of transportation, photographers observe the intersections of cultures on public transit and the isolation of solitary commuters on the highway. Modes of transit spawn communities, and photographers have documented biker gangs and houseboats. Journeys are photographed out of windows of speeding vehicles; blurred, voyeuristic, and fleeting. The vehicles themselves are cultural icons and status symbols: sailboats, muscle cars, Harley-Davidsons, and fixed gear bicycles. For In Transit, The Kiernan Gallery seeks images from and of the vehicles that move us.

Awards:

• 30 images will be exhibited in The Kiernan Gallery in Lexington, Virginia (December 5 – 29, 2012). Up to an additional 40 images will be selected for exhibition in the online gallery.
• A Juror’s Choice and Director’s Choice will also be announced.

All photographic media are encouraged. ?Submit digital images by email or mail on a CD. There is a limit of 10 images that you may submit.

Image requirements: JPG format; 72 ppi; sRGB color profile; less than 1024 pixels on the longest side.
