A National Competition for Memoir and Documentary Writers, Videographers and Photographers.First Person Impression Competition

Each day countless stories unfold. Take a real life experience of your own and tell it in a way that only you can. Craft your story with words, photos or video. Make the ordinary magical, or the exotic familiar. Shock us, amaze us or make us pause to reflect. The only rule is that it’s real.

All entries must be new works that have not previously been published, exhibited or screened in the US.

Photography up to 5 images. Single images are welcome; multiple images must be related, as in a photo essay.

Winners are judged by experts in the respective categories and can win cash prizes, as well as the opportunity to have their work published the Phila. City Paper and more. 

===How to enter:

  1. Download the competition guidelines and application form
  2. Pay your entry fee of $10 per submission
  3. Submit your application form and work, as follows:

Photography: Email your photograph(s) to photography@firstpersonarts.org (Be prepared to mail a physical copy of your image(s) to us if you win)

  1. Are you accepting travel essays in first person? What is the word limit? Also what digital format do you want the photos in? Can you give me more guidelines? I have some essays and possible photo essays I would like to submit.
