« Crop out as much background as possible to help direct the viewer to your subject in the photo, unless the background has compelling information important to your composition such as a scenic sky or other important element. Close-ups may provide the most visual impact, as the subject matter is taking up most of the composition.  »

  1. National Geographic “My Shot” - Photo Opportunity…

You can now submit your photos to National Geographic web site and have a chance to see them on the main page!…

  3. You’d have to be crazy to do this. You’re giving them your work, for free, forever . . . on the off-chance you’ll get your picture published?

  4. Richard, in some way I agree with you.

  5. THIS IS A TOTAL SCAM!!! As are many of these contests. If you read the fine print in the agreements, you’ll find that they get to use your image for perpetuity for free for whatever purpose they wish.
That means they will use your images to advertise and promote their own agendas. Don’t allow big companies and publishers to exploit you as an artist!!!

  6. Do not waste your time. The editors have no idea what a good photo is.

  7. What a sleazy rights grab from a publication that appears to respect photography.

  8. Agred. This is another rip-off scam to grab hundreds of photos for their greedy commercial purposes…for FREE. I feel sorry for anybody who turns over their photos to these crooks.

  9. I agree with you lot. There are too many offering us the chance to publish our work, with no reward. If you think that your work is that good then you dont need to go to these cowboys to get your work shown off… watch out for FREE competitions,, nothing is FREE

  10. Absolutely not worth losing all control over your images. Who do they think they’re going to doop into doing this?

  11. If I thought this was not an attempt to steal once in a lifetime photos I would enter a photo that people who have seen it rate as one of the best they have ever seen but after reading your copy right notation No can do.
